Gregory Mertens dies after collapse

Unfortunately, when you hear bad news, there is no good way to announce it. Sadly, young footballer Gregory Mertens has died of heart failure, three days after collapsing during a match.

He was a Belgian professional footballer and was only 24. After he collapsed he was taken to the hospital and was put on a life-support machine.

The medical staff did everything they could save this young man, but it simply wasn't enough. Sadly, Gregory passed away approximately at 16:30.

Gregory's condition had worsened since he was taken to the hospital, and doctors weren't very optimistic when it comes to his survival.

His family had no choice, but to switch his life support. The cause of his heart failure is still unknown, and the exact nature of his heart condition has yet to be discovered and established.

No one expected this " outcome " since he was one of the fittest players at his club, and he passed all pre-season health test.

His club stated that Gregory was only one and a half years at the club, but even though he wasn't very long in the club, he won the hearts of everyone, because he was kind and modest boy.

A lot of people expressed their condolences, including Fabrice Muamba, former Bolton midfielder who survived after suffering a cardiac arrest while playing against Tottenham, back in 2012.

Along with Fabrice, Thibaut Courtois, Adnan Januzaj, and many others also expressed their condolences to his family and friends.
